MemoryLane review
A focused task-mining tool with a free BYOK path and costly paid entry.

MemoryLane is desktop task-mining software for individuals and small to mid-sized teams. It runs in the background, captures screen activity, converts screenshots into textual summaries, and identifies repeated workflows, time usage, and automation opportunities. From those findings, users can create process maps, SOPs, automation reports, and AI-agent prompts or scripts. Windows and macOS support, API access, and self-hosted deployment give it a broad operating footprint, while application and website blacklisting helps control capture scope.
Pricing makes the product more approachable for evaluation than its paid positioning suggests. The Individual plan is free with BYOK and includes capture, repetitive-workflow discovery, AI-agent prompts, automation reports, HTML and PDF workflow-map exports, and local data storage. Paid Individual pricing starts at $100 per user per month, billed monthly. Central rollout is aimed at organizations that need central deployment, centralized storage, custom privacy controls, cross-team process maps, automation recommendations, and implementation and AI-adoption support. That structure suits small teams that can begin locally, but the paid entry point may limit broader deployment.
MemoryLane’s strongest fit is for teams that want to turn observed desktop work into documented processes and automation candidates without sending primary data to a remote store by default. Semantic activity data is retained locally, screenshots and video files are cleaned up after processing, and on-premise deployment is available. Its MCP server connects with compatible AI assistants, including Claude, Cursor, and OpenRouter. Choose MemoryLane for workflow discovery, task-level mapping, and AI-agent output across desktop work. Consider an alternative if you need a wider integration ecosystem or a lower-cost paid rollout across many users.
