Medusa is a Java-based, server-side Minecraft anti-cheat and automatic moderation plugin for solo, small, and mid-market operators running legacy Spigot servers. Its heuristic checks target aimbots, autoclickers, reach exploits, movement anomalies, inventory cheats, protocol violations, and other behavior anomalies. The project is open source under GPLv3 and is deployed on a self-hosted server, making it a fit for administrators who want source-available controls rather than a hosted service.

Its main strength is detection and response flexibility. Administrators can configure detection sensitivity and mitigation thresholds, review alerts and player session logs, and trigger custom commands when violations occur. The theme system supports customized logs and messages, while the public API provides an integration path for server tooling. PacketEvents is also listed as an integration. Together, these features give operators several ways to review suspicious activity and decide how enforcement should work, rather than limiting them to a single automatic action.

Compatibility is the deciding factor. Official compatibility covers Minecraft 1.8–1.12, with tested major versions also listed for 1.7–1.12, so newer-version servers should choose a product with matching support. The official Spigot listing shows a last update of June 18, 2021, and the vendor portfolio states that user support concluded in 2021. Choose Medusa when free, open-source heuristic detection and configurable server-side enforcement fit a legacy Spigot environment; choose an alternative when current-version coverage, ongoing support, or a hosted deployment matters more.
