MatterX Legal Finance review
A Microsoft-centered legal finance suite for firms that need trust accounting and matter workflows.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
MatterX Legal Finance brings legal matter and client management together with time recording, billing, trust accounting and financial reporting. It is designed for Australian and New Zealand law firms, from solo practitioners to larger practices, that want legal finance workflows within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Its scope is broader than accounting alone: firms can also manage documents through SharePoint and connect general accounting with Xero. The fit is clearest for practices already invested in Microsoft services and looking to consolidate matter-linked financial work.
The feature set is especially relevant where trust and financial controls are central. MatterX lists legal trust accounting with three-way reconciliation, statutory deposits and controlled-money handling, alongside WIP tracking, revenue analytics, multi-currency support and financial dimensions. SharePoint document management includes version control and search, while Power BI is used for analytics. Base includes unlimited matters and clients, trust accounting described as NSW Law Society-certified, SharePoint document management and Microsoft 365 integration. Professional adds Outlook filing for email, meetings and calls, as well as priority support. Premium adds managed services, custom integrations, custom Power BI dashboards and a dedicated account manager. Document automation and advanced SharePoint DMS are planned for 2026; the eight AI agents are in preview.
The Microsoft ecosystem is the product’s defining advantage and also its main selection constraint. Listed connections include Business Central, Dataverse, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, Power BI, Power Automate, Copilot and Entra ID, with Xero also supported. Firms seeking trust accounting, legal billing and Microsoft-based document workflows may find this combination relevant. Those prioritizing a published subscription price, or whose work depends on verified mobile or client portal capabilities, should compare alternatives before committing. MatterX uses contact-sales pricing, so prospective buyers will need a quote to assess cost.

- Pricing is quote-based rather than published as fixed plans.
- Document automation, advanced SharePoint DMS and workflow automation are planned for 2026.
