Manager review
A capable free desktop ledger with flexible deployment, but no connected bank feeds.

Manager is bookkeeping software for small businesses that need general-ledger accounting across desktop, cloud, or self-hosted environments. Its free Desktop Edition works offline on Windows, macOS, and Linux, with tools for bank reconciliation, bank-statement importing, invoicing, inventory management, tax and multi-currency support, financial reporting, receipt capture, and role-based permissions. It also supports accountant access, payroll, and project accounting. The product suits businesses that want broad accounting coverage without committing to a browser-based workflow.
The editions give Manager a clear deployment range. Desktop Edition is single-user software for offline work. Cloud Edition adds browser-based access, multi-user collaboration, unlimited businesses and users, and access from computers and mobile devices through a web browser. Server Edition supports self-hosted deployment and perpetual use, with the first 12 months of maintenance included. That combination makes Manager adaptable for solo bookkeeping, distributed teams, and organizations that prefer to host their own accounting system.
Its main limitation is the boundary between importing statements and connected banking. Manager supports bank-statement importing and automatic categorization rules, but connected bank feeds and fully automated reconciliation are not part of the product’s documented feature set. Businesses that require direct bank connections or a native mobile platform should look elsewhere. Choose Manager for flexible platform coverage, inventory and invoicing alongside core bookkeeping, and a free offline desktop option; consider an alternative when bank-feed automation or native mobile apps is central to the workflow.
