Our verdict on Mailwing

Mailwing is a free, open-source desktop app for people who want to keep several webmail services accessible in one window. It displays Gmail, Outlook, Zoho, Fastmail, Yahoo, and Proton Mail through their provider interfaces, and runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux. It is aimed at desktop users, particularly solo users and small teams, who prefer separate account views over a single combined message list. Mailwing can also be set as the default mail client for mailto links.

Each account has an isolated session, so its provider interface remains separate from the others. Live unread counts and notifications help surface incoming mail without switching among individual browser windows. Built-in ad and tracker blocking is included, and the app follows the operating system’s dark mode setting. A local scratch panel holds notes and to-dos. Account data and notes stay on the local machine; there is no cloud sync, so Mailwing is not suited to people who need those items synchronized across devices.

The key trade-off is its side-by-side approach: Mailwing does not create a unified inbox or merged message list. It brings provider interfaces together, rather than replacing them with one consolidated mail workflow. The app is free with no paid tier, and support is community-based. Choose it if a desktop hub for multiple accounts, isolated sessions, and local utilities fits your routine. If you need a mobile app, cloud-synced notes, or a single combined inbox, another email app is a better fit.
