Our verdict on MailFlow
MailFlow is a self-hosted, open-source webmail client for people who want to manage multiple email accounts through one browser-based interface. It connects Gmail, iCloud Mail, Outlook, Fastmail, and custom IMAP accounts, then brings messages into a unified inbox with full-text search, conversation threading, real-time synchronization, and notifications. Rich-text composition supports attachments, while inbox rules, sender block lists, automatic categorization, and two-factor authentication cover everyday organization and account protection. Installable desktop and mobile PWAs extend access beyond a standard browser, and the AI assistant can summarize messages, help draft replies, and answer questions about email.
Pricing is straightforward. The Personal & Open Source plan costs $0 forever and includes all features, unlimited accounts, full source code access, and community support. Personal self-hosting is available under AGPL-3.0. The Commercial License costs $500 per installation as a one-time payment and includes all features, no AGPL obligations, private modification and deployment, and direct email support. That structure makes MailFlow particularly suitable for individuals and teams that can self-host and are comfortable with open-source licensing. Organizations that need private commercial deployment can choose the paid license without giving up the feature set.
The standout is the combination of multi-provider mail management and AI assistance in a self-hosted client. Todoist integration adds a task-oriented connection, while search, categorization, rules, and sender controls help keep a consolidated inbox manageable. The trade-off is a narrower productivity scope: MailFlow does not provide offline access, send-later scheduling, or calendar tools. Choose it for centralized email, source access, and deployment control; choose an alternative if offline work, timed sending, or integrated calendar planning is central to your workflow.
