A free Overworld generator for players who want continents, rivers, varied terrain and reworked caves.

Lithosphere reshapes Minecraft Java Edition’s Overworld generation for players who want more varied large-scale terrain without adding biomes or new dimensions. It is available as a datapack and as mod releases, and its listed Minecraft versions span 1.19.x, 1.20.x, 1.21.x, 26.1.x and 26.2. The project is free, with support for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. Players looking for new biomes or changes beyond the Overworld should look elsewhere; those focused on terrain and cave generation are its intended audience.
The scope is broader than changing mountain height alone. Lithosphere generates large and small continents separated by deep oceans, with occasional islands and archipelagos. Coastlines can shift from gradual beaches to steep cliffs, while mountain ranges and terrain-height transitions are reworked. Rivers, river valleys and large lakes add further landforms, and karst regions and swamp placement are changed. Cave generation is overhauled, while expanded temperature and humidity regions affect biome sizes. The result is a terrain-focused change to how the existing Overworld is laid out, rather than a package of added biomes.
Compatibility is the main planning consideration for players with other Overworld-generation changes: documentation notes that datapacks modifying Overworld noise settings may be incompatible unless adapted to use Lithosphere’s final density function. That makes it a less straightforward fit for a setup built around other noise-modifying datapacks. Because releases are available across four loaders and the listed Minecraft versions, players can check compatibility against their specific version and loader before choosing the datapack or mod release. Pick Lithosphere for continents, varied coasts, rivers, lakes and caves; skip it if the goal is new biomes, another dimension, or an unchanged Overworld-generation setup.
