Layout Department is a desktop application for artist publishers, small press publishers, small print shops, and people who make print publications. It takes ordered PDF pages and prepares imposed print files for books, zines, and booklets. The workflow covers sheet sizes, page placement, binding orientation, booklet formats, covers, trim and bleed marks, and print-ready PDF export. Processing happens locally on Windows and macOS, making it a focused option for users who already have publication pages in PDF form and need print layout rather than a broad page-design environment.

The pricing structure is straightforward. The Community Edition is free and includes basic book and zine layout features, page creep adjustment, cover layouts, and full print-file export without watermarks or downsampling. The Paid License costs $29 one time and includes everything in the free edition, plus resizing and custom trim size, trim and bleed marks, more imposition layouts, sections or signatures, and multi-fold. The paid license includes one year of updates, while continued use of the downloaded version is allowed after updates end.
