A flexible newsletter tool for technical teams, with modest entry-tier sending limits.

Keila is an open-source email newsletter tool for teams that want control over campaign creation, contact management, sending, and deployment. It supports web access, an API, and self-hosting, with tools for signup forms, custom fields, segmentation, personalization, analytics, scheduling, and transactional email delivery. Technical teams may value the ability to edit campaigns visually or with Markdown, plain text, MJML, and HTML, while self-hosting is available under the GNU AGPLv3 license. Keila Cloud is hosted in the European Union.
Pricing is based on monthly email volume rather than a finite contact allowance. Keila XS costs €8 per month for 2,000 emails, while Keila S costs €16 for 5,000. Keila M costs €32 for 15,000, Keila L costs €64 for 50,000, Keila XL costs €128 for 100,000, and Keila XXL costs €256 for 250,000. Every listed plan includes unlimited contacts and unlimited projects, which makes the structure straightforward for organizations with larger databases but moderate sending needs. The main constraint is the monthly send ceiling, especially on the entry plan, and there is no free plan.
Keila’s strongest fit is controlled, developer-friendly email publishing. Visual rules and query language support segmentation, Liquid templates can use custom JSON data, and SMTP, AWS SES, SendGrid, Mailgun, Postmark, and Zapier provide several delivery and workflow connections. The product is less suitable for teams seeking a broader marketing suite: its listed capabilities do not cover landing pages, and verified automation or A/B testing are not part of the confirmed core feature set. Choose Keila for open-source control, flexible editing, and API-based sending; choose an alternative when advanced campaign experimentation or broader marketing automation is central.
