JS7800 is a free, open-source browser emulator for Atari 7800 games. Implemented as an enhanced JavaScript port of the ProSystem emulator, it runs in modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. It suits players who want to load Atari 7800 cartridges locally or remotely without installing a desktop application. Its focus is narrow: Atari 7800 compatibility in the web browser, rather than broad Atari system coverage or a multi-platform desktop package.
The browser interface covers more than basic cartridge loading. Customizable keyboard mappings let players adjust controls, while gamepad compatibility includes dual-analog support. Fullscreen display, multiple aspect ratios, and configurable video filters provide several ways to shape the picture. Drag-and-drop loading supports local and remote files, cartridge lists help organize available games, and mouse-based light-gun support adds input for compatible experiences. Expansion Module and enhanced bank-switching support extend compatibility with supported cartridge configurations. Global high-score tracking is available for compatible games.
JS7800 is distributed under the GPL-2.0 open-source license, and its free model keeps access straightforward for browser-based play. The main trade-off is feature scope: JS7800 is centered on Atari 7800, and the category specifications do not include save states or netplay. The project notes save/load states and network-based multiplayer as future considerations for JS7800 itself; save states are available through webЯcade. Choose JS7800 if browser access, display customization, flexible input, and cartridge loading matter most. Players who require built-in save states, network multiplayer, or support for other Atari systems should choose an emulator designed around those needs.
