Our verdict on Jellyfin for Kodi

Jellyfin for Kodi connects Kodi to a Jellyfin server, letting users sync selected libraries into Kodi’s local database or browse other libraries dynamically. It supports movies, TV shows, music videos and music, making it suited to Jellyfin users who want their media organized in Kodi as well as available through Jellyfin. The add-on is free and open source, but it requires a Jellyfin server; it is not a standalone media library.

Playback flexibility is a notable strength. Users can choose add-on mode, which uses the Jellyfin server, or native playback from files shared over NFS or SMB. Direct play and transcoding are supported. The add-on also synchronizes watched and resume states in both directions, and can present Live TV, playlists, home videos, photos and theme media. Jellyfin web and mobile clients can send remote playback commands. That breadth makes it useful for people who want Kodi’s local database and playback alongside Jellyfin’s server-managed library, rather than a simple browsing-only connection.

The ecosystem fit is focused: Jellyfin Server and Kodi are the integrations, with Kodi support described for PCs, tablets, Android TV, Fire TV and other TV boxes. Installation comes from a third-party repository, and the project targets the current Kodi release plus or minus one. Documentation and community channels are the stated support options. Choose this add-on if Jellyfin is already part of your setup and you want synced Kodi libraries, playback choices and watched-state continuity. It is less suitable if you need a standalone Kodi add-on or a product with a different server ecosystem.
