Interactive Brokers is an online brokerage for individual investors, traders and institutional customers. It provides access to stocks, ETFs, options, futures, currencies, bonds, funds, cryptocurrencies and other products across international markets. Clients can trade through web, desktop and mobile platforms or connect through the API. Account choices include individual, joint, IRA, trust and UGMA/UTMA arrangements, with availability varying by region. Fractional trading is available for eligible US and European stocks and ETFs, while PortfolioAnalyst tracks holdings and performance.
Pricing is organized around IBKR Lite and IBKR Pro. IBKR Lite charges USD 0 per trade for eligible US-listed stocks and ETFs and has no account minimums or inactivity fees, but the plan is restricted to eligible US residents. IBKR Pro - Fixed charges USD 0.005 per share for US stocks and ETFs, with a USD 1.00 minimum per order. IBKR Pro - Tiered starts at USD 0.0005 per share, uses volume-based commissions that fall as monthly volume rises, and has a USD 0.35 minimum per order. Other products can carry commissions and fees, so the free starting price does not apply across the full instrument range.
The platform mix supports browser, Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and API workflows, with advanced order types, algorithmic trading tools and the Stock Yield Enhancement Program for eligible fully paid shares. Integrations with ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Perplexity add AI access alongside two-factor authentication, ticket support and documentation. This breadth fits investors and firms managing multiple asset classes or markets, while people seeking only straightforward domestic stock purchases may prefer a narrower broker. Regional rules and product-specific costs should guide the choice between Lite and Pro.
