Intego Mac Internet Security X9 review
A focused macOS security package for users who prioritize firewall controls.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
Intego Mac Internet Security X9 combines VirusBarrier X9 antivirus with NetBarrier X9 firewall and network protection. It is designed for Mac users who want malware scanning and control over incoming and outgoing network connections in one paid product. Protection includes real-time scanning, on-demand full and quick scans, scheduled scans, quarantine and repair options, and detection of Mac, Windows, Unix and macro malware.
The standout feature is its firewall focus. NetBarrier X9 provides two-way firewall and network protection, with automatic profile switching based on the connected network. Users can also define application and IP network rules, giving the product a more specific network-control emphasis than an antivirus package centered only on file scanning. Automatic scanning of mounted external drives adds another useful layer for Mac workflows involving removable storage.
The published compatibility range covers macOS 10.13 and later, with compatibility listed through macOS Sequoia 15. The plan covers one Mac, and the product is limited to macOS rather than serving mixed-device households across multiple platforms. It also does not include parental controls or a password manager. Choose Intego Mac Internet Security X9 if firewall rules, scheduled scanning and Mac-focused malware protection are the main priorities. Users seeking broader platform coverage, more than one covered Mac or additional identity and family-management tools should consider an alternative.
