IBM Planning Analytics is enterprise FP&A software for finance and operational teams managing budgets, forecasts, financial consolidation, workforce plans, and business performance. Built on the IBM TM1 database, it combines budgeting, version comparison, variance analysis, dashboards, scorecards, and real-time updates. Its audience is large organizations that need connected planning across financial and operational functions, rather than teams looking only for a lightweight budgeting tool.
The Essentials plan starts at $875 USD and includes 16 GB of RAM, five users, a pre-built application, connected planning, core model building, and self-service data import. Standard increases capacity to 32 GB of RAM and 10 users, while Premium provides 64 GB of RAM and 20 users. Standard and Premium include Excel and web interfaces, self-service custom data backup, and development and production environments with source control management. A 30-day trial is available, but there is no perpetual free plan. Deployment can be SaaS, hybrid, or on premises, with support for IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure, Windows, and Linux environments.
The feature set is broad for organizations that need more than core budgeting. AI-driven and multivariate forecasting, what-if analysis, alternative scenarios, financial reporting, and workforce planning sit alongside data collection, consolidation, and real-time analysis. The Microsoft Excel add-in with write-back functionality can support teams that still work extensively in spreadsheets. Integration coverage centers on SAP, watsonx Orchestrate, and Microsoft Excel, so organizations with wider application ecosystems should assess fit carefully. Choose IBM Planning Analytics for mature, cross-functional planning and analytics; consider a simpler alternative if the entry price, enterprise scope, or limited named integrations outweigh the need for its planning depth.
