Hoowla is cloud-based legal practice management software for solicitors, conveyancers, and other UK law firms. It brings matter and case management, workflows, tasks, deadlines, milestones, documents, client communication, billing, and reporting into one system. Its coverage spans conveyancing, family law, litigation, wills and probate, immigration, and asylum. Client intake questionnaires, online data collection, automated document generation, templates, and form filling support work from initial information gathering through matter completion.

The strongest area is legal accounting. Hoowla separates client and office funds and supports trust and client accounting alongside three-way bank, ledger, and cashbook reconciliation. Its reporting set includes ledgers, trial balances, profit and loss, aged debt, and reconciliation reports. Billable time can connect to invoice generation and reporting, while invoicing, completion statements, and electronic payment collection are supported through GoCardless. This makes the product a strong fit for firms that need practice management and detailed financial controls in the same environment.

Pricing follows different licensing approaches by legal area: conveyancing uses pricing per completed case, while other legal areas use per-user monthly licensing, with amounts provided through a quote. There is no free plan. Hoowla connects with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, HM Land Registry, The Law Society forms, and GoCardless, and offers custom APIs and webhooks for integrations and event-driven workflows. The secure, branded client portal is browser-based and mobile-friendly. Firms seeking deep accounting, client-facing workflows, and broad legal operations coverage should consider Hoowla; firms prioritizing public self-serve pricing or stated native mobile applications may prefer an alternative.

Hoowla pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Three-way reconciliation across bank, ledger, and cashbook
    • Client portal supports messages, documents, signatures, and uploads
    • Document automation, workflows, billing, and legal reports in one system
  • Where it doesn't
    • Pricing requires a tailored quote rather than public numeric rates
    • Access centers on web and API rather than stated native mobile apps
    • UK-focused systems may fit UK firms better than other markets
