Health Literacy Advisor review
A focused readability suite for teams improving health content across languages and platforms.

Health Literacy Advisor helps teams assess and improve the readability of health and non-health documents. It is aimed at health literacy, medical communications, and plain-language teams that need structured analysis rather than a general-purpose writing assistant. The product combines grade-level analysis, sentence and word highlighting, medical-jargon replacement, document assessment, and editing tools across online and desktop versions. Its published platform coverage includes web, Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.
The paid lineup is organized around language and licensing needs. English Only includes Health Literacy Advisor Online or Desktop with the English language version. English & Spanish includes the Online or Desktop product in both languages. Add Spanish to existing HLA extends an existing Health Literacy Advisor license with Spanish. There is no free plan, so organizations should evaluate the language and deployment combination they need before selecting a license. The separate online and desktop offerings also make the product suitable for teams that want browser-based editing or a Microsoft Word add-in.
Its strongest area is the depth of its readability workflow. Nine named indices—including Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level, SMOG, Gunning-Fog, ARI, and Coleman-Liau—give teams several ways to evaluate text. The more than 12,000-term plain-language lexicon supports interactive search and replace for difficult words, phrases, and medical jargon. REDA adds review of readability, content, design, and cultural appropriateness, while the online editor supports spell checking, formatting, images, tables, document saving, upload and download, and direct printing. Choose it when health-specific language review and document assessment matter. Teams seeking a free checker, a broader integration ecosystem, or a lighter single-purpose tool may prefer an alternative.
