Our verdict on Guitar Tab Maker
Guitar Tab Maker is a free editor for guitarists, students, teachers, and musicians who need to write, review, or document guitar parts. Its six-string tablature grid supports manual fret entry, while synchronized standard notation provides a conventional notation view. Users can add chords, tempos, note values, tunings, and techniques including hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, bends, and dead notes. The tool works on the web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, making it suitable for simple tab work across different devices.
Its main strength is the combination of editing, playback, and export in a focused workflow. Tab playback uses guitar sound, and chord construction is handled by stacking notes in a column. Supported tunings include Standard, Drop D, DADGAD, Open G, and Eb Standard. ASCII tab can be imported, while completed work can be exported as ASCII text, MIDI, or printable PDF files. Sharing is also supported. This gives players and educators practical ways to move between written tab, notation, playback, and shareable files without relying on a more complex composition environment.
Guitar Tab Maker is a good choice for straightforward manual tab creation, lesson material, riffs, and quick musical documentation. Its free model and availability across six platforms make it accessible for users who do not need advanced production features. The trade-off is a narrower scope: it does not provide audio recording or AI-assisted features, and the workflow centers on entering notes rather than capturing performances. Choose it when synchronized tab and notation, basic playback, common tunings, and export are the priorities; consider a broader guitar notation or music production tool when recording and more advanced capabilities are central requirements.
