Google Play Billing review
A broad Android billing stack for purchases, subscriptions, verification, and reporting.

Google Play Billing is a Google service for selling digital products and subscriptions in Android apps. It covers one-time consumable and non-consumable products, recurring and prepaid subscriptions, installment plans, subscription add-ons, offers, and subscription changes. Android teams that want purchase flows connected to Google Play Console and backend APIs will find the product aligned with their platform needs. Teams building for platforms beyond Android should look for a broader billing option.
Its strongest area is the connection between checkout and post-purchase operations. The Play Billing Library supports in-app purchase and subscription checkout flows, while the Play Console and APIs handle product catalog management. Server-side purchase verification and entitlement synchronization support backend processing, and real-time developer notifications communicate purchase state changes. Refund, revocation, cancellation, and subscription management APIs cover important subscription lifecycle events.
The surrounding ecosystem is a central part of the product. Google Play Console provides financial and transaction reporting, while the Google Play Developer API extends catalog and purchase operations. Cloud Pub/Sub supports notification delivery, and Google Cloud Storage is available as an integration. This makes Google Play Billing a fit for teams already operating Android services around Google's tools. It is less suitable for a cross-platform monetization strategy or for organizations seeking a standalone, multi-platform billing system.
