GoldSim is a desktop simulation platform for modeling the future behavior of physical, financial, and organizational systems. It is aimed at engineers, researchers, businesses, and government teams that need to represent uncertainty or examine how complex systems may behave over time. Graphical influence diagrams and hierarchical, reusable containers provide the model-building structure, while Monte Carlo methods support probabilistic forecasts and risk analysis. Its hybrid approach also covers discrete events alongside continuously varying systems, making it relevant where neither mode alone is sufficient.

The feature set extends beyond general simulation. Users can compare scenarios, run sensitivity analysis, and optimize models; spreadsheet, ODBC database, and external DLL linkage connect models with other tools and data sources. Specialized modules address reliability, financial modeling, and contaminant transport. Those capabilities make GoldSim a fit for work that benefits from combining uncertainty analysis with domain-specific modeling, rather than a general-purpose choice for every simulation task. The product is installed on desktop or laptop computers; its browser-based License Portal is for license administration, not cloud simulation.

Licensing spans commercial desktop standalone, enterprise standalone, and concurrent network plans, as well as leased standalone options for one year or three months. Academic standalone licenses support teaching and student research projects with restrictions, and a research lease is available to academic researchers, also with restrictions. GoldSim Player is free and lets people view, navigate, and run an existing model; a free plan and a 30-day trial are also listed. Commercial plans include one year of maintenance and one hour of live web-based training. Choose GoldSim when risk, scenario, or hybrid-system modeling depth matters; look elsewhere if cloud simulation is essential or the model needs a simpler, narrower tool.

GoldSim pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Combines Monte Carlo risk analysis with discrete-event and continuous simulation
    • Supports scenario comparison, sensitivity analysis, and optimization
    • Specialized modules cover reliability, finance, and contaminant transport
  • Where it doesn't
    • Desktop installation means simulation is not cloud-deployed
    • Commercial and leased license options may take time to compare
    • Academic licenses have restrictions; Player only runs existing models
