Gemini Custody review
Institutional custody with verifiable addresses, approval workflows, and a per-asset monthly minimum.

Gemini Custody provides regulated, segregated custody of digital assets for institutions and other eligible customers. It is aimed at teams that need controls around withdrawals and account activity, rather than individuals seeking a general-purpose wallet. New accounts use multi-party computation (MPC) infrastructure; withdrawals are signed on demand after required approvals. The service is available through a web self-service portal and API, with tools for balances, transfers, statements, withdrawals, and subaccounts.
Pricing is tied to custody balances: the published fee is 0.4% annualized or $30 per month per asset, whichever is higher. There is no minimum balance, and the setup fee is waived. The $30 is therefore a recurring minimum for each asset, not a flat subscription covering an entire account. Teams holding several assets should account for that per-asset basis when comparing costs. This structure makes the minimum visible, but it can be less attractive to organizations seeking a single fixed custody fee.
The controls and ecosystem are the main fit considerations. Multi-user approvals apply to account activity and withdrawals, while passkey authorization is used for approved-address changes and withdrawals. Addresses are segregated and independently verifiable on their blockchains, and view-only auditor access covers balances, transactions, and activity. Gemini Exchange dashboard integration and Gemini Instant Trade provide a route to trade assets held in custody. Support is offered by email and ticket, with 24/7 support listed. Choose Gemini Custody if verifiable segregation and governed access are priorities; consider alternatives if per-asset pricing or variation in supported assets and networks during the MPC transition does not suit your requirements.
Gemini Custody pros and cons
- Where it wins
- MPC signing avoids assembling the complete private key during storage or signing.
- Segregated asset addresses can be independently verified on their blockchains.
- Multi-user approvals and passkey authorization govern sensitive account activity.
- Where it doesn't
- The $30 monthly minimum applies per asset, so costs can rise with asset count.
- Custody is for institutions and other eligible customers, not every prospective user.
- Supported assets and networks may differ during the MPC infrastructure transition.
