Our verdict on GatePass
GatePass is a school attendance and gate-management platform for primary, secondary, and kindergarten schools. Students scan QR ID cards at school gates, creating attendance records and triggering parent or guardian notifications. It also covers class registers, late-arrival flagging, absence tracking, attendance reports, emergency roll-call, visitor sign-in, boarding, trips, and fee reminders. Schools manage the administrative console in a web browser.
Pricing is charged per term in UGX. Gate costs UGX 150,000 per term, Watch costs UGX 300,000, Guard costs UGX 450,000, Shield costs UGX 600,000, Sentinel costs UGX 750,000, and Citadel costs UGX 900,000. The published plan descriptions list unlimited gate scans, QR ID card generation and printing, a real-time attendance dashboard, notifications, reports, and visitor management for each tier. Every school receives one free term, presented as a time-limited trial rather than a permanent free plan.
The strongest fit is a school that wants attendance capture tied directly to controlled entry and exit. Offline gate scanning with synchronization supports gate operations when connectivity is interrupted, while automated alerts, reports, and emergency roll-call extend the system beyond basic register keeping. Visitor pre-booking and sign-in add a separate gate-management layer, and boarding and trip workflows address attendance outside the standard school day. The current documented platform is web-based; the vendor lists iOS and Android apps as coming soon. Schools seeking a current native mobile administration experience or clearer feature differences between paid tiers should consider alternatives.
