Our verdict on Future Fonts
Future Fonts is a paid marketplace for experimental typefaces in progress, aimed at designers, studios, and teams seeking work from independent type designers and foundries. Its catalog contains 367 typefaces, with individual product pages that show specimens, version notes, version history, and licensing information. Buyers receive the current font package and free updates as the typeface develops, making the marketplace suited to projects that can accommodate evolving designs rather than only finished, static releases.
Browsing is a central strength. Filters cover status, category, features, scripts, license type, and variable-font availability, helping buyers narrow a broad catalog by practical project requirements. The marketplace includes desktop, web, and app licensing options, with OTF, TTF, and WOFF2 formats represented in its catalog specifications. Some products include variable font files, while the foundry directory and journal add context around the designers and typefaces. This combination favors discovery and comparison, particularly when a project needs a distinctive typeface with a documented development history.
Pricing is paid and varies by typeface and license scope, with a perpetual license model. The practical question is not only which design fits, but also which usage rights are needed across desktop, web, or app environments. Future Fonts is a good choice for buyers who value curated independent work, versioned releases, and free updates during development. It is less suitable for teams that require a free plan, a single standardized price structure, or trials across the entire catalog.
