ForgeRock Authenticator is a free mobile multi-factor authentication app for users of PingAM and PingOne Advanced Identity Cloud. It supports push authentication notifications, time-based one-time passwords (TOTP), and HMAC-based one-time passwords (HOTP). Users can register multiple accounts, add accounts by scanning QR codes, approve push requests, and generate OTPs. The app is distributed through Google Play and the Apple App Store, making it a focused companion for organizations using Ping identity products on mobile devices.

Its strongest fit is the combination of push approvals and code-based authentication in one app. Support for both TOTP and HOTP covers two one-time-password methods, while multiple account registration helps users manage more than one connected account. Biometric and device-tampering policies add device-level controls, and recovery codes are available for registered devices. These capabilities make the app suitable for Ping deployments that need more than a single OTP generator.

The main consideration is ecosystem fit. Integrations include PingAM, PingOne Advanced Identity Cloud, PingFederate, and PingOne, so the product is most relevant when those services are part of the identity environment. It supports iOS and Android rather than desktop platforms. Ping’s current SDK documentation recommends switching to the PingID mobile app, although ForgeRock Authenticator remains documented and listed in official app stores. Choose ForgeRock Authenticator when its Ping integrations match the deployment and its free mobile feature set meets the requirement; consider PingID when following that current documentation direction.
