Floreant POS review
A capable free POS for small restaurants that need offline, local operation.

Floreant POS is a free, open-source point-of-sale system for restaurants, retail businesses, and hospitality operations. It is aimed at businesses that need touch-optimized order entry for dine-in, takeout, and delivery, along with table service, payments, reporting, and kitchen workflows. The software runs locally on Windows, macOS, and Linux, making it a fit for small restaurants that want to avoid a required cloud connection or monthly subscription.
Pricing is straightforward: the Floreant POS plan costs $0 and includes an open-source restaurant POS, local operation without internet dependency, and no monthly subscription. The software is licensed under MRPL 1.2 and is distributed as a portable ZIP with an embedded database. Its platform coverage is broader than a Windows-only setup, while hardware configuration supports receipts, kitchen printers, bar printers, and KDS workflows. Restaurants can also configure cash, card, and split payments, menu modifiers, combos, special instructions, and visual menu buttons.
Operationally, Floreant POS covers core restaurant workflows in one package. Table tracking, split checks, guest checks, bar tabs with pre-authorization limits, role-based access, individual user logins, sales reports, guest counts, payment breakdowns, and performance tracking give it useful breadth for a local restaurant POS. Its kitchen display system supports either printer or touchscreen KDS operation. The tradeoff is ecosystem depth: no verified integrations are listed, and there are no AI features. Choose Floreant POS if free local deployment and broad order handling matter most; consider another product if verified integrations or a more connected platform are priorities.
