Family Beacon review
A free Android-and-web family map with privacy controls and practical alerts.

Family Beacon is a family location-sharing service for households that want a shared map without a paid subscription during development. Its Android app and browser-based map let selected family members share live locations, while the map shows markers, movement trails, last-seen times and battery information. Privacy is central: location updates are end-to-end encrypted, and users can delete their encrypted account and share list. It is best suited to Android-based families that also want browser access for viewing locations.
The feature set covers everyday coordination and safety alerts. Safe Zones can notify family members about arrivals and departures, while battery, speed and nearby alerts add context around a person’s location. SOS alerts can be sent to selected family members. Optional location-history replay provides a way to review movement, although history is limited rather than presented as an unlimited archive. Phone ringing, flashlight activation and spoken-message controls also make the service useful for finding or contacting a nearby device.
Family Beacon is currently free during development and has no paid plans, so its pricing is straightforward for families evaluating the service now. Google Sign-In supports account access, and Anthropic is listed among the integrations, while the core experience remains centered on Android and the web map. Choose Family Beacon if Android coverage, encrypted sharing, browser viewing and safety alerts meet your needs. Choose another option if your household requires iPhone support or a broader, clearly defined paid-plan structure.
