FAIRsharing review
A free registry for discovering research data resources, not for storing or managing data.

Researchers and data stewards looking for relevant standards, databases, repositories, and data policies can use FAIRsharing as a curated registry. Resource producers can also use it to improve discoverability. Its records describe links among standards, databases, and policies, helping users explore a resource landscape rather than manage research data within the product. The registry is available on the web and through an API, and its records are tagged by discipline.
Discovery is the central strength. Standard and advanced search cover more than 40 metadata fields, while filters let users find records by research object type. Relationship browsing surfaces connections among standards, databases, and policies, which can help when a single search result is not enough to identify related resources. FAIRsharing DOIs identify records for citation and use in other tools, and metadata can be accessed programmatically through the API. Data Stewardship Wizard is a named integration; the broader ecosystem fit is through record information that third-party tools can consume.
FAIRsharing is free, so it can serve as a discovery resource without a paid tier decision. Its scope is also its key boundary: it is not a data repository and does not author data management plans. Teams that need storage, repository access, or a workflow for writing and managing a plan should choose a dedicated tool for those tasks. Pick FAIRsharing when the need is to find and connect resources or cite registry records; do not treat it as a system for holding research data or running a data-management process.
