Fabric Language Kotlin review
A focused open-source Kotlin layer for developers building Fabric mods.

Fabric Language Kotlin is an open-source language-support module for developers who build Minecraft mods with Fabric and Kotlin. It works as a project dependency rather than as a standalone editor, adding a Kotlin adapter for Fabric mod entrypoints and supporting class, object, companion-object, and top-level entrypoint patterns. The result is a focused development layer for teams and individuals who prefer Kotlin within Fabric-based projects.
Its strongest fit is the connection between Kotlin and the existing Fabric project workflow. Gradle dependency integration helps incorporate the module into a Gradle-based project, while fabric.mod.json dependency declarations identify the required relationship in the mod metadata. The package also bundles the Kotlin standard library and reflection library, along with kotlinx coroutines, serialization, datetime, and IO libraries. That combination gives Kotlin-based Fabric projects access to several commonly used language and utility components within the same dependency.
The trade-off is narrow scope. Fabric Language Kotlin is designed for Fabric Loader projects, so it is not a general Minecraft mod-development environment or a cross-loader tool. It also does not replace the broader project setup work associated with Gradle configuration and mod metadata. Choose it when Kotlin is the intended language and Fabric is the target platform; choose a different tool when the priority is visual mod creation, support for other loaders, or an all-in-one development environment.
Fabric Language Kotlin pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Adds Kotlin entrypoints with multiple implementation patterns
- Integrates with Gradle and fabric.mod.json dependency declarations
- Bundles Kotlin and selected kotlinx libraries for Fabric projects
- Where it doesn't
- Supports Fabric Loader rather than a broader mod-loader ecosystem
- Requires project-level dependency and metadata configuration
- Does not provide a standalone visual mod-development environment
