ExploitShield review
A focused, free plugin for blocking packet, crash, NBT, payload, and duplication exploits.

ExploitShield is a free, GPL-3.0 open-source Minecraft server plugin for operators focused on exploit and crash protection. It targets packet exploits, crash attempts, invalid NBT data, malicious payloads, and duplication methods rather than serving as a broad cheat-detection system. The plugin supports Paper, Spigot, and Folia servers running Minecraft 1.17.x through 1.21.x, with self-hosted deployment for small, mid-market, and enterprise environments.
Its strongest fit is the breadth of server-side protection in a focused area. ExploitShield validates and filters packets, limits packet floods, detects oversized or invalid NBT data, and protects against crashes involving books, signs, payloads, chat overflow, and tab completion. Duplication protection covers inventories, hoppers, containers, pistons, minecarts, boats, and vehicles. Operators can configure alerts and punishments, including alert, cancel, kick, ban, IP ban, and custom command actions. Player exploit profiles and status commands add operational visibility, while PacketEvents and ProtocolLib support its packet-handling approach. bStats is also listed as an integration.
The trade-off is scope. ExploitShield is designed around exploit prevention, crash resistance, validation, and duplication controls, so servers seeking broad cheat detection should consider a more specialized complementary option. Replay analysis is not part of the published capability set, which limits its role in reviewing incidents after they occur. The project’s open-source model avoids paid tiers and licensed-server limits, but support is community-based. Choose ExploitShield when free, inspectable protection for common packet, payload, NBT, crash, and duplication attack paths is the priority; choose an alternative or companion plugin when replay workflows or wider player-cheat coverage matter more.
