Everest review
A free, open-source Celeste mod loader with broad content support and developer tools.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
Everest is an open-source mod loader and modding API for Celeste. It is aimed at players who want custom maps, campaigns, graphics, audio, dialogue, and code mods, as well as creators who need tools for developing and debugging mods. Everest installs into a local Celeste installation and supports the game on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
The project is free and open source, with no paid tiers described. Its ecosystem fit is broad for Celeste: it supports installations obtained through Steam, itch.io, and Epic Games. Mod installation can use ZIP files or folders, while dependency downloading helps manage requirements between mods. An in-game updater keeps the mod loader current, and players can switch between modded and vanilla Celeste without altering the original game files.
Everest’s standout strength is the range of content and development support in one loader. It can handle texture, decal, tileset, sprite, and audio replacement, alongside code mods, custom maps, and campaigns. Enhanced debug mode, live map reloading, an in-game console, and live log output add useful control for mod creators and advanced users. The trade-off is its narrow scope: Everest supports Celeste rather than a wider catalog of games, and the installation flow involves Olympus as the cross-platform installer before Everest is added to a local game installation. Choose it for Celeste modding across desktop platforms; choose another loader for multi-game coverage.
