Esup-Signature is a web application for creating and managing electronic signature and approval workflows, aimed particularly at higher-education and research institutions. Organizations can sign their own files or send documents to one or more recipients, with signature steps arranged in order and workflows saved for reuse. The project is open source under Apache 2.0 and is installed on an institution's own server. That makes it relevant to organizations seeking control over deployment and certificate-based signing, rather than teams looking for a hosted e-signature service.

Its signing options cover a range of use cases: image-based signatures on PDFs, verification and visa signatures, simple, advanced, and qualified signatures, and certificate-based signing in PAdES, CAdES, or XAdES formats. Esup-Signature can validate signed documents and retain evidence of signature activity. External signers can be authenticated using ProConnect, FranceConnect, or an SMS code. These capabilities give institutions options for approval flows and signer checks, but organizations should match the available signature types and authentication methods to their own requirements before adopting it.

Integration is oriented toward institutional systems: the product provides REST web services for integration and workflow automation, and lists CMIS and SMB/NFS integrations. The trade-off is operational: the software must be installed and run on an institution's own server, so it is a better fit for organizations prepared to manage a self-hosted application than for teams wanting vendor-hosted service. Support is listed through community and documentation, which may suit institutions comfortable with those channels. Choose Esup-Signature if reusable workflows, multiple signature types, and self-hosting fit your environment; consider another product if hosted delivery or a different support model is essential.
