Our verdict on EditiX

EditiX is a desktop XML editor and development toolkit for specialists working with XML documents, transformations, queries, schemas, and related formats. It supports Windows, macOS, and Linux, and the current release is free and open source under the GPL-3.0 license. Alongside XML, it handles JSON, HTML, CSS, SVG, and JavaScript, making it suitable for developers and technical teams whose work centers on structured documents rather than general-purpose text editing.

Its strongest area is the depth of its XML workflow. Real-time assistance and validation are paired with editors and tools for XSLT 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0, XPath, XQuery, W3C XML Schema, comparison and diffing, projects, multi-file search, and XPath-based operations. JavaScript DOM API support, scripting, CSV and XLSX import, JSON Schema editing, and large-file handling extend the toolkit beyond basic document editing. AI features connect with Anthropic, Gemini, OpenAI, Ollama Cloud, DeepSeek, xAI, and Mistral AI, giving teams several provider options within the same specialized environment.

The published plans also make EditiX workable across different licensing needs. The free and open-source release covers the three supported desktop platforms. An Extension Pack adds a manual with more than 250 screenshots, manual translations, and seven AI-provider plugins. A Commercial License covers closed-source use, internal or commercial modifications, and priority support and updates. EditiX is a strong fit for XML and XSLT specialists who value structured-document tooling and open-source access. Teams seeking a broader, general-purpose editor with more common editing features should consider a different tool.
