E-UAE is an open-source emulator for running Amiga software on desktop operating systems. Its published platform coverage includes Windows, macOS, and Linux, with documented builds also spanning Solaris, BeOS, AmigaOS, MorphOS, and AROS. It suits users who want configurable emulation across several Amiga models and who are comfortable working with emulator images, ROM files, and build-specific platform differences.

Its main strength is breadth within Amiga emulation. E-UAE can emulate 68000-based ECS systems, ECS with Fat Agnus, AGA, CDTV, CD32, 68020, and 68060 configurations. CPU, chipset, and memory settings are configurable, while floppy emulation supports up to four drives and ADF, DMS, FDI, and IPF images. Virtual filesystem and hard-file emulation extend the storage options, and save states, a built-in debugger or monitor, and optional OpenGL display output add control for users working across different software and hardware profiles.

The trade-off is an older, experimental project profile. Kickstart ROM images are generally required for full emulation and are not distributed with E-UAE, although limited built-in ROM emulation is available for some older games. Support also depends on the build, particularly on Windows, where documented options include Cygwin and MinGW32. Choose E-UAE for broad model coverage, open-source access, and detailed configuration. Choose an alternative if you need a newer project experience, simpler onboarding, or a bundled ROM solution.
