DRS Nova review
A deep Windows restoration suite for facilities handling demanding archival film work.

DRS Nova is Windows software for professional digital film restoration and remastering. It is designed for restoration artists, post-production companies, broadcasters, studios, and archives working with damaged, aging, or incomplete film. The feature set spans automated and manual repair, including dust, dirt, debris, scratches, tears, flicker, grain, aperture correction, geometric distortion, stabilization, and frame replacement. Its MTai FrameGen module uses generative AI to recreate missing frames from jump cuts and frame slugs, giving specialist teams a focused tool for complex archival work.
The pricing structure is aimed at professional facilities rather than casual or occasional users. The Monthly plan costs $1,295 per month for the DRS Nova software rental. The Permanent plan costs $14,750 one time for a permanent license. Annual upgrades and support cost $3,500 per year for a single license or $2,900 per year for multi-seat coverage, with both options including major and minor version upgrades and technical support. A 30-day free trial provides an evaluation period before committing to the paid plans.
DRS Nova’s strongest case is its breadth within film restoration. Camera motion analysis, automated and manual stabilization, dewarping, three-layer film registration, deflicker, mistime correction, and paint, clone, and tracking workflows address multiple stages of a restoration pipeline. That depth should suit facilities that need specialized repair tools in one Windows desktop application. Smaller studios, mixed-platform teams, and buyers with occasional restoration needs may find the Windows-only coverage and high monthly or permanent cost difficult to justify. DRS Nova fits best when archival restoration is a central production function and the workflow requires both automated processing and detailed manual control.
