Our verdict on Diigo
Diigo is a cloud-based bookmarking and personal knowledge-management service for individuals, educators, researchers, and teams. It combines a personal library for saved web pages with tags, lists, outliners, highlights, sticky notes, screenshots, PDF annotation, and web archiving. Researchers and annotators can search saved content and annotations through full-text search, while groups and shared annotations support collaborative work. Access is available through the web, iOS, Android, a Chrome extension, and the Diigo HTTP API.
The published plans show a useful free entry point, but with defined limits: the Free plan includes bookmarks and notes, 200 highlights, 50 screenshots and images, 5 outliners, and 1 private group with 3 members. Standard costs $5 per month or $40 per year and adds unlimited bookmarks and notes, unlimited highlights, unlimited cached pages, and 40 outliners. Professional costs $6 per month or $59 per year and keeps those unlimited allowances while adding unlimited outliners. A free Teacher plan includes 5,000 highlights, 1,000 screenshots and images, 20 outliners, and a teacher console.
Diigo’s strongest distinction is the depth of its research workflow: users can capture a page, preserve a cached version, highlight passages, attach anchored or floating notes, annotate PDFs, and retrieve saved material through search. Import and export tools, browser bookmark import, Kindle highlights import, Save by Email, blog publishing, social media bookmarking, and the API extend how information enters and leaves the library. Business features include team library storage, collaborative web and PDF annotation, and an admin console dashboard. Diigo suits people who need structured research capture and annotation; those seeking only lightweight bookmarking may find its broader toolkit unnecessary.
