Dialogic review
A capable free toolkit for branching dialogue in Godot projects.

Dialogic is an open-source Godot plugin for creating in-game dialogue, interactive timelines, and visual novels. It is aimed at game developers who want dialogue authoring inside a Godot project, with support for visual and text-based workflows. Dialogic 2 supports Godot 4.5 or higher, while Dialogic 1 targets Godot 3.x. The project is licensed under MIT, allowing use in commercial games.
Its main strength is the range of narrative authoring tools in one toolkit. The visual timeline editor uses movable event blocks, while the text editor adds syntax highlighting and autocomplete. Branching choices and timeline jumps support non-linear conversations, and character management, variables, glossary entries, and text actions provide structure for larger dialogue systems. Custom events and script-based extensions add flexibility, while styles, layouts, portraits, and dialogue nodes can be customized. A history subsystem stores encountered dialogue events, adding continuity to interactive conversations.
Localization is supported through a CSV-based workflow for timelines, character names, and glossary entries. That makes Dialogic a strong fit for Godot developers building dialogue-heavy games or visual novels who want both visual and text authoring. The main trade-off is its narrow engine focus: verified support is centered on Godot, rather than a wider game-development ecosystem. Dialogic 2 is also described as in development and alpha, and its Godot 4.5-or-higher requirement separates it from projects using Godot 3.x. Teams outside Godot, or those seeking a mature tool for another engine, should choose a different product.
