Descartes 3G TMS is a cloud-based transportation management system for shippers, third-party logistics providers, freight brokers, and other logistics organizations. It covers road, rail, and multimodal transportation, with support for truckload, LTL, parcel, intermodal, and drayage operations. The product brings planning, rating, load optimization, tendering, carrier management, tracking, collaboration, freight settlement, audit, reporting, and analytics into one system. It is aimed at logistics teams managing multiple freight modes, partners, and business processes.
Its strongest fit is a mature transportation network that needs more than shipment execution alone. Multimodal planning and optimization sit alongside rate comparison, automated carrier tendering, carrier onboarding and compliance, shipment visibility, exception alerts, and customer and carrier portals. Freight bill entry, audit, reconciliation, and settlement extend the platform into post-shipment financial workflows. Configurable workflows and AI-supported automation add flexibility, while dashboards and performance analytics provide an advanced reporting layer.
Ecosystem connectivity is a central part of the product. Descartes 3G TMS supports EDI, APIs, web services, and integration templates, with connections for ERP systems, accounting systems, carrier APIs, and the Descartes Global Logistics Network. That makes it relevant where transportation data must move between operational and financial systems. The trade-off is breadth: smaller teams or single-mode operations may not need its full range of planning, compliance, collaboration, audit, and settlement capabilities. Pricing uses a contact-sales model, and the product is web-based. Choose it for a mature multimodal logistics network; consider a narrower tool when limited scope and simpler buying are higher priorities.
