Our verdict on Demo
Demo is a mobile songwriting app for capturing and developing song ideas, including for people who do not play an instrument or know music theory. It combines chord progression tools, a lyric rhyme tool, song-section organization, and multitrack recording in one workspace. Writers can record vocals or other audio, then export mixes, stems, MIDI files, and chord sheets. The free download and three-day trial make it possible to explore the workflow before considering Demo+; the app is aimed at solo and small songwriting projects rather than broad desktop-based production.
The songwriting workflow is a key strength: users can start with preset or custom chord progressions, arrange sections and repeats, and get chord suggestions by detecting notes in a sung melody. That gives writers a route from a hummed idea toward an arranged song without requiring instrument proficiency. Lyrics, chords, and recordings sit alongside one another, while CoWrite supports sharing a project with collaborators. It is a focused songwriting toolkit, not a general-purpose music production suite, so it makes most sense for early composition and drafting rather than users whose priority is a larger production environment.
Exports and mobile ecosystem fit are the other notable considerations. Demo supports iCloud syncing and can produce mixes, stems, MIDI files, and chord sheets, which gives songwriters several ways to carry material into other workflows. It is available on Apple devices and is iOS-only in the platform category, limiting its fit for writers who need Android or Windows access. Demo+ Yearly and Demo+ Monthly are the paid options, with the published plan descriptions promising access to app features or all app features; the free plan and three-day trial offer a starting point. Choose Demo for mobile-first song development and export flexibility, but look elsewhere if cross-platform availability is essential.
