DefleMask review
A focused tracker for classic sound-chip composition, ROM building, and chiptune export.

DefleMask is a multi-system chiptune music tracker for composing video game music for classic consoles and computers. It is designed for retro-console composers, chiptune specialists, and creators working with sound-chip systems such as Genesis, Master System, Game Boy, NES, C64, Arcade, Neo Geo, and MSX2. The software is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, with free availability and a focus on tracker-based composition rather than general-purpose music production.
Its strongest area is sound-chip-focused composition. DefleMask provides real-time emulation of classic console and computer soundchips, along with FM, wavetable, and sample instrument editors. Pattern Matrix sequencing supports independent channel orders, while MIDI input and real-time recording connect the tracker to MIDI devices. Composers can switch between soundchip systems for song porting, giving the software a clear fit for projects that target multiple classic formats. ROM builders and export to VGM, WAV, and ROM formats extend the workflow from sequencing into game-music delivery.
Collaboration and platform coverage add flexibility. Live multiplayer collaboration is available through PareidoLink, and the Android version includes MIDI device support and multiplayer collaboration. The published versions also include DefleMask Mobile and DefleMask Legacy; Legacy is an unsupported 32-bit-only version, so it is a narrower option for older environments. DefleMask should appeal to composers who need authentic sound-chip workflows, classic-format export, and cross-platform access. It is less suitable for creators seeking a broad, general-purpose music production environment outside retro-console and chiptune work.
