Our verdict on Deep Nostalgia
Deep Nostalgia is MyHeritage’s photo-animation feature for bringing faces in still family photos to life. It is designed for people who want a simple way to animate portraits, heritage images, and other photographs containing recognizable faces. The feature detects faces, then applies deep-learning facial animation with movements such as blinking, smiling, and head turns. It is available through the web experience and MyHeritage’s iOS and Android apps, and it can also animate photos already stored in MyHeritage.
Its main strength is an automated workflow. Deep Nostalgia selects a gesture driver based on head and eye orientation, offers general and special gesture animations, and can enhance a photo before animation when needed. Photos may also be colorized or restored before use. When more than one face is detected, users can select among the faces, but the service animates them one at a time. The result can be downloaded as an MP4 video or shared through a social link or copied link, making the feature suited to quick personal sharing rather than detailed motion design.
Deep Nostalgia is a freemium product with a free plan, while the Photo Plan includes Deep Nostalgia photo animation, Photo Enhancer, MyHeritage In Color, Photo Repair, and unlimited photo storage. That broader plan is most relevant for people who want animation alongside photo restoration and organization features. Choose Deep Nostalgia for accessible facial animation across web and mobile. Consider another type of photo-animation software if you need movement across backgrounds, clothing, objects, or entire scenes instead of faces.
