Dada Mail is a self-hosted, web-based mailing list manager for organizations, businesses, and individuals running announcement or discussion newsletters. It supports HTML and plain-text authoring, scheduled and recurring mass mailings, subscriber search, segmentation, custom profile fields, subscription workflows, tracking, public archives, and embeddable forms. It fits publishers that want control over hosting and mailing-list management rather than a hosted email-sending service.

Its plan structure is straightforward. The free Dada Mail plan supports up to three mailing lists and 100 subscribers per mailing list, with no support included. Pro Dada, One-Year Subscription costs $150 per year and adds unlimited mailing lists and subscribers, prioritized direct support, and access to the Dada Mail Manual. Pro Dada, Forever Subscription costs $300 as a one-time payment and provides the same unlimited quotas and prioritized support, with lifetime access to the manual. The published plans describe software limits and support rather than hosted sending tiers.

Dada Mail’s strongest fit is scheduled newsletter publishing with list-management depth. It can track opens, clickthroughs, bounces, unsubscribes, and archive views; provide searchable public archives with RSS and Atom feeds; and handle confirmation, approval, welcome, and farewell messages. Sending can connect through sendmail, SMTP, Amazon SES, or Mailgun, while bounce handling and discussion-list support are available through plugins. The trade-off is operational: self-hosting means hosting and email-delivery costs depend on the infrastructure and sending services selected. Choose Dada Mail for control, scheduled mailings, and publisher-facing archives; choose an alternative if advanced automation or testing is central to the workflow.

Dada Mail pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Scheduled and recurring mass mailings with monitoring, pausing, and logging
    • Subscriber segmentation, custom fields, and detailed engagement tracking
    • Self-hosting, open-source availability, and searchable RSS/Atom archives
  • Where it doesn't
    • The free plan supports only 100 subscribers per mailing list
    • Automation and testing capabilities are limited
    • Self-hosting leaves infrastructure and delivery costs to the operator
