Counted is a web, Android and iOS app for friends, flatmates and travel groups who need to track shared spending without creating accounts. A project is shared by link, and participants can record expenses, transfers and gains. Splits can be equal, share-based or exact, while settlement calculations aim to reduce the number of transfers. Recurring expenses support rent and subscriptions, and the service handles more than 150 currencies.
The published Free plan costs nothing and includes no account requirement, ads, trackers, subscription or paid version. There is no stated cap on expenses or participants. Setup centers on creating a project and sharing its link, with manual expense entry available across the service. Mobile users can scan receipts on-device, and offline entry and browsing help when connectivity is limited. CSV and JSON exports provide a way to move records elsewhere, while Tricount project import can help migrate an existing group ledger.
Privacy and control are central to Counted's design. Projects are end-to-end encrypted, data is stored on European servers, and the product is listed with GDPR compliance. It is open source and stores encrypted payment details for IBAN, PayPal, Wero, Lydia and Revolut, allowing groups to reference settlement methods within a project. History covers additions, edits and deletions. Counted fits privacy-conscious groups wanting a free, cross-platform ledger with recurring expenses and receipt capture. Groups needing receipt scanning on the web, payment providers outside the listed integrations or support beyond email and documentation should consider whether its focused ecosystem meets their workflow.
