CookieConsent is a free, open-source JavaScript plugin for managing cookie consent and website scripts. It is aimed at developers who want to add configurable consent and preferences modals without adopting a larger hosted consent management platform. Controls can be organized by category and service, while scripts can be activated according to a visitor’s consent choices. The plugin is available for web projects through package managers, a CDN, or downloaded releases.

Its strongest feature set is the level of consent-flow control available in a lightweight implementation. CookieConsent supports automatic cookie clearing after a category rejection, consent revisions, callbacks, and change events. Developers can also configure layouts, positions, translations, and accessibility behavior. The published integration example for Google Tag Manager Consent Mode can help teams connect consent choices to tag management, although the broader setup remains implementation-led rather than managed through a full platform.
