A capable free WordPress form builder for straightforward contact and payment forms.

Contact Form 7 is a free, open-source WordPress plugin for creating and embedding contact forms on self-hosted WordPress sites. It suits solo users, small businesses, and teams that need configurable forms without a paid subscription. Available fields include text, number, date, checkbox, radio, menu, acceptance, hidden, and submit fields. File uploads, email notifications, autoresponder messages, server-side and browser-side validation, and a Stripe credit-card payment widget extend it beyond a basic contact form.
The plugin’s main strength is control over the form itself. Forms are configured with form tags and can be adapted through custom HTML, CSS, templates, and messages. A WordPress block handles insertion into site content, while integrations with Brevo, Cloudflare Turnstile, reCAPTCHA, Stripe, and Akismet cover email marketing, spam protection, payments, and related needs. The Free plan includes the WordPress plugin under the GNU GPL v2 license, making it a practical fit for WordPress sites that want ownership of their form setup rather than a hosted builder.
Its narrower focus also defines the trade-off. Contact Form 7 does not provide native workflows or analytics, and its integration coverage is smaller than broader form platforms. The documented conditional behavior centers on validation rules rather than native question show/hide logic. Choose it when WordPress compatibility, open-source licensing, configurable fields, uploads, and basic payment collection matter most. Consider another form builder when you need advanced automation, reporting, extensive native integrations, or more sophisticated conditional experiences.
