ConstructTab is web-based construction cost tracking software for builders, general contractors, trade contractors, developers and project managers. It assigns labour, materials, equipment, fuel and permit costs to projects, compares budgets with actual spending, and presents live profit-and-loss views. The wider toolkit covers quotes, estimates, invoicing, timesheets, purchase orders, delivery tracking, Gantt scheduling, CRM pipeline management, VAT tracking, change orders, PDF reports and a client cost-summary portal. It suits small and mid-market teams that want project controls alongside accounting exports.

The free plan costs £0 monthly and supports three projects, six cost categories, budget-versus-actual monitoring, PDF reports, a site diary and a client share portal. The £49-per-month Pro plan removes the project cap and adds receipt and file uploads, quotes and estimates, advanced invoicing, timesheets, purchase orders and a Gantt chart. Both tiers are presented as monthly plans, so smaller contractors can begin with core cost control and move up when project volume or document needs increase.

Accounting workflow fit is a central strength: ConstructTab supports exports for Xero, QuickBooks and Sage. Its broader construction coverage connects job costing with scheduling, purchasing, client sharing, tax tracking and change orders rather than focusing only on bookkeeping. However, deployment is web-only, with mobile access described as mobile web, and the stated feature set does not include WIP or payroll workflows. Choose ConstructTab if affordable project-level cost visibility, invoicing and scheduling are priorities; consider another system when native applications, payroll or dedicated WIP accounting are essential.

ConstructTab pros and cons

  • Where it wins

  • Where it doesn't
    • Free plan is limited to 3 projects.
    • Access is web-based, including mobile web, rather than native apps.
    • WIP and payroll workflows are outside the stated feature set.
