Compiere is an open-source ERP system for organizations managing finance, distribution, sales, service, inventory, purchasing, and manufacturing. Its functional scope includes global accounting, multi-organization and multi-entity operations, warehouses, currencies, languages, work orders, role-based security, dashboards, and model-driven customization without programming. Browser-based access, Windows and Linux support, APIs, self-hosting, and cloud or on-premise deployment make it a fit for teams that want control over deployment and business processes rather than a narrowly focused accounting tool.

The free Community edition provides a broad starting point across finance, inventory, orders, MRP, multi-entity accounting, dashboards, and customization. According to the published plans, Standard Edition costs $400 per user per year and adds technical support services, automated upgrade tools, and Service Pack releases. Professional Edition costs $750 per user per year and includes Professional Edition functionality, with manufacturing and warehouse add-ons available. Enterprise Edition costs $995 per user per year and adds multi-server support, management dashboards, Visual Dictionary Editor, and Dynamic Web Services support. Paid editions require at least 10 authorized users, while database licenses and add-on modules may cost extra.

Compiere’s strongest fit is for organizations that value open-source ERP, model-driven configuration, and broad coverage across finance, distribution, inventory, orders, and manufacturing. Web-services integration supports connections with external systems, but the listed integration scope is narrower than products built around extensive prebuilt app ecosystems. Buyers should also account for the operational requirements of a multi-entity ERP and the added cost structure of paid editions, licenses, and modules. Choose Compiere when customization, self-hosting, and open-source access are priorities; consider an alternative when a wide catalog of ready-made integrations or a simpler deployment model matters more.
