CompassDocs is a knowledge base for teams that create, organize, approve, publish, and search SOPs, policies, runbooks, and internal documentation. Its rich-text and Markdown editor supports multimedia blocks, numbered steps, checklists, decision trees, and templates. Teams can organize content into spaces, control access with roles and custom permissions, and publish public read-only sites or export documents as PDFs. The Community edition is open-source under AGPL-3.0 and supports self-hosted deployment, making CompassDocs a fit for organizations that want structured documentation with control over their environment.
The pricing model starts with a free Community plan that includes unlimited users and documents, AI proofreading, approval workflows, version history, and two-factor authentication. Enterprise costs $599 per install per year and adds SSO with SAML 2.0 and OIDC, Microsoft 365 directory sync, policy acknowledgements, training and completion tracking, SCIM provisioning, and audit-log export. Cloud is priced at $8 per user per month and includes managed hosting, updates, encrypted off-site backups, managed TLS, and a custom domain; it is marked as coming soon. Enterprise trials are available through the vendor.
Governance is the product’s standout area. Review queues, approvals, side-by-side diffs, restoration, draft branches, private spaces, per-space edit rights, acknowledgements, completion tracking, and security-relevant activity records support controlled document lifecycles. AI-powered semantic search provides inline document citations, and integrations include Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra, Google Workspace, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Webex, email, S3, Azure, Outlook, Anthropic, OpenAI, Claude, and Ollama. Choose CompassDocs when SOP control, deployment flexibility, and compliance-oriented workflows matter. Teams seeking an immediately available managed service should wait for Cloud availability or consider another option.
