Our verdict on Cinch
Cinch is a mobile study-planning app for college and graduate students who want coursework organized around a calendar. It imports assignment information from learning-management systems such as Canvas and Brightspace, and it can extract assignment details from uploaded or entered syllabi. The app then places due-date markers and study blocks in Google Calendar, giving students a single schedule for academic deadlines and planned work.
Its strongest area is automated scheduling. Cinch generates seven-day study schedules, time-blocks sessions before assignment deadlines, and schedules study around existing calendar commitments. When availability or assignment progress changes, it automatically adjusts the plan. This makes it suited to students managing changing workloads who want more than a static assignment list. Imported assignments can be reviewed, and study blocks can be moved manually as standard Google Calendar events, so the workflow combines automation with user control.
Cinch’s ecosystem fit is focused rather than broad: Canvas, Brightspace, other LMS platforms, and Google Calendar are central to the workflow. Students already using those systems should find the product’s main value in connecting course information with calendar-based planning. It is less suitable for students who do not use iOS, do not rely on Google Calendar, or want a free planning app. Cinch is a strong choice for calendar-first academic scheduling, while students seeking broader platform coverage or a simpler standalone task list should consider alternatives.
