CHS Construction Accounting is web-based software for custom home builders, remodelers and other project-oriented contractors. It brings estimating, budgets, purchase orders, work orders, change orders, payables, receivables, billing, payroll allocation and financial reporting into one system. Its accounting scope is aimed at contractors that need job-level financial control, including cost centers and cost codes, contract balances, retainage billing, cash balances and cash-flow reporting. Small and mid-market firms can also use schedules, daily logs, weekly status reports and customer or vendor collaboration tools alongside the accounting functions.
The published plans separate initial setup from the ongoing base subscription and user fees. Initial setup includes setup time and upfront full support. The Base subscription adds training videos, help documents, ongoing upgrades, nightly data integrity checks and backups, plus server storage. Separate user-fee plans cover up to five users and over five users, with unlimited support for each user and bandwidth usage by each user. This structure suits organizations that want continuing support and managed infrastructure, while buyers should account for setup and user-based charges when comparing options.
CHS stands out for the depth of its construction accounting workflow. It calculates estimated costs at completion, projected profit, work in progress and percentage-of-completion figures as jobs advance, then connects those figures to billing, payroll posting and cash-flow reporting. The customer portal, plans room and file uploads extend the system beyond the back office. However, the product is available through the web only, has no AI features and does not offer a free trial. Contractors seeking broad general-purpose integrations, AI-assisted workflows or a trial-based evaluation may prefer another platform; firms that prioritize integrated WIP, job costing and cash-flow control should find the feature coverage more aligned.
