Our verdict on chesstactics

chesstactics is a chess tactics training app for beginners and improving players who want practice organized around recognizable motifs and their own games. Its journeys pair lessons with announced-theme drills and hidden-theme tests, covering 40 motifs such as forks, pins and mating patterns. Rated puzzles adapt to the user's level, while timed three-strike sprints add speed practice. The central distinction is that tactics missed in Chess.com or Lichess game histories can become replayable puzzles, rather than training being limited to a general puzzle feed.

Game review is the most tailored part of the product. Users connect a Chess.com or Lichess account, and engine analysis identifies missed tactics for later practice; spaced repetition revisits missed puzzles. The free plan scans the last 20 games per account, while Pro adds unlimited scans and weekly automatic scans. This makes the app a natural fit for players who already keep games on those services and want review to lead directly into focused tactics work. It is less suited to learners seeking opening training, which is not part of its stated training modes.

The Free plan includes Sections I and II of every journey, rated and practice puzzles, sprints with daily limits, and leaderboards, achievements and streaks. Pro, lifetime costs €59 one time and adds Section III of every journey, unlimited puzzles, sprints and practice, unlimited game scans with weekly automatic scans, and future motif journeys. The published refund period is 14 days. Access is available on web, iOS and Android, with email support. Choose Pro if the daily limits or game-scan cap would interrupt regular training; the free plan offers a way to explore the journeys first. Players focused on broader chess study rather than tactics should look elsewhere.
