Our verdict on CBZ Manga Reader
CBZ Manga Reader is a local-first app for reading comic and manga files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It suits readers who already keep digital files and want several formats and page layouts in one reader. Reading is free and does not require an account; files and progress stay on the device by default. Its focus is personal reading and library organization rather than panel-by-panel navigation, which is not supported.
Format coverage is a practical strength: the app opens CBZ, ZIP, EPUB, CBR, RAR, CB7, 7z, and PDF files. Manga readers can choose right-to-left reading, while dual-page, automatic dual-page, and continuous vertical or webtoon layouts cover different page styles. A multi-folder library provides covers, sorting, and continue-reading access. On-device AI colorization is another distinctive option. This makes the app a good fit for readers who value format flexibility and local reading; its platform scope is limited to Apple devices.
The free reading experience is supplemented by optional Premium tools. The listed Premium features include library search and reading-status filters, favorites and collections, bookmarks, and a table of contents; image adjustments are also described as optional Premium features. Optional iCloud sync can keep reading progress in sync, and the app lists iCloud Drive and AniList integrations. The published plan names include Lifetime Premium and Monthly Premium, while reading remains free. Pick CBZ Manga Reader if its supported formats, layouts, and on-device colorization match your library. Readers who need its advanced organization tools without Premium, or who use a non-Apple platform, should consider another reader.
